WOLFVILLE – Samou Brayan Kone (men’s basketball) and Elizabeth Iseyemi (women’s basketball) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending January 28.

Kone, a first-year sociology student, finished with a season-high 15 points for the Axemen in their 104-75 win over the UPEI Panthers on Friday night. He was efficient, scoring his 15 points in just 15 minutes on the floor, while also shooting an impressive 6-for-7 from the field and 3-for-5 from the line. Kone also led Acadia with six rebounds on the night.

Iseyemi, a fourth-year chemistry student, helped the Axewomen clinch their spot in the AUS championship in late February by leading them past the UPEI Panthers 81-53. She finished the night with 33 points, 15 rebounds and four assists. Her weekend has her now second in the country in scoring with 22.3 points per game, trailing only Madalyn Weinert’s 22.5 at Brock. She also sits sixth in the nation in rebounds per game with 10.5.

This weekend men’s hockey returns home for a Wednesday night against Saint Mary’s before hosting UPEI on Saturday. Both basketball teams are at StFX on Wednesday, but return home to host UNB on Saturday night, while volleyball has the week off.

The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
