WOLFVILLE – Gabe Davignon (men’s basketball) and Alexia Lemay-Evans (women’s volleyball) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending January 14.

Davignon, a second-year business administration student, finished with 23 points in an impressive 113-79 victory for the Axemen over the U SPORTS No. 5 ranked StFX X-Men on Saturday night. He only trailed Glen Cox in scoring on the night, but impressively was near perfect shooting on the night. He was 8-for-10 from the floor, which included 7-for-9 from three. That also featured a three at halftime with just one second on the clock to put the Axemen up 55-38. He also finished with three assists and three rebounds.

Lemay-Evans, a second-year kinesiology student, had a big weekend offensively for the Axewomen volleyball program in a pair of matches against Saint Mary’s. Over the two matches she finished with 25 kills, two service aces, a block and four block assists for 30 points. She also had 14 digs defensively for Acadia.

This weekend the basketball teams are both home on Friday to host the Dalhousie Tigers, while the men’s hockey team is home on Saturday to welcome the StFX X-Men. Tip-off on Friday is 6 and 8 p.m., while puck drop on Saturday is 7 p.m.
