WOLFVILLE – Hudson Wilson (men’s hockey) and Rebecca Dorsey (women’s volleyball) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending January 21.

Wilson, a third-year community development student, finished the weekend with a goal, his second of the year, but it was his defensively play that stood out for the Axemen. In Saturday night’s 3-2 victory over StFX, he played a key role on the penalty kill for Acadia. Logging over 29 minutes in the game, his play kept the X-Men to only one goal on nine power play attempts. Even with Saturday’s numbers, StFX is still second in the AUS in power play percentage at 21.3 per cent, making the performance on Saturday that much more significant.

Dorsey, a fifth-year independent studies student, helped the Axewomen to a sweep of the Aigles Bleues over the weekend to put them in a tie for top spot in the AUS. She finished the weekend with 48 digs, eight assists and two kills. With her defensive play she is now averaging 5.44 digs per set in the month of January, up from 4.64 in November. Finishing with over 20 digs, which she accomplished in both matches, is also the first time she has done so since November 18 at UNB.

This weekend the basketball teams are both home on Friday to host the UPEI Panthers in the only home game for Acadia this week.

The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
