Acadia basketball players Samantha Russell and Glen Cox have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending November 12.

Cox, a third-year business administration student, led the Axemen to a weekend sweep of the Cape Breton Capers. In Friday’s 106-102 victory he scored 30 points, shooting 57.1 per cent from the floor, including 14-for-16 from the free throw line. He followed that performance with 36 points in the 98-74 win on Saturday night. Again he shot over 50 per cent from the field and was 83.3 per cent from the free throw line. Over the two games he also had 13 rebounds. Through six games he leads the AUS in scoring, averaging 26.7 points per game.

Russell, a third-year business student, was key on both sides of the ball for the Axewomen as they won both games against Cape Breton over the weekend. She scored 19 points in both games, earning a double-double in both games. She finished with 10 boards in Friday’s 72-44 victory, followed by 12 rebounds on Saturday as Acadia edged the Capers 61-60. Of note, she also had two blocks in the second game of the weekend.
