Elizabeth Iseyemi (women’s basketball) and Thomas Couture (men’s hockey) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending January 7.

Iseyemi, a fourth-year chemistry student, helped the Axewomen to a sweep of the Cape Breton Capers in Sydney over the weekend. She finished the weekend with 47 points, 18 rebounds, seven assists, a steal and a block over two games, which included a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds in Saturday’s 71-62 victory. She had a team-high 28 points in Friday night’s 83-81 win.

Couture, a first-year business administration student, picked up his first career AUS shutout win on Wednesday against the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The 2-0 victory featured a 33-save performance by Couture. He followed that with a 21-save win, including a perfect shootout, to help the Axemen to a weekend sweep to open the second half of the year.

All teams are home this week for Acadia, with men’s hockey hosting Moncton and UNB on Friday and Saturday. Basketball welcomes StFX on Saturday, while volleyball hosts Saint Mary’s on Sunday.
