Collins and Harvie named Acadia athletes of the week
WOLFVILLE – Ella Collins (swimming) and David Harvie (swimming) have been named the Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending November 24.
Harvie, a second-year computer science student, had a record-setting weekend at the Kemp-Fry Invitational. He broke three team records in the 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle, and 1500m freestyle events. Harvie’s 200m time eclipsed the previous record set in 2021-22, while the 400m and 1500m records improved on his own marks from last season. He finished first in the 200m, second in the 400m, and fourth in both the 100m and 1500m freestyle events. Harvie also contributed to a first-place finish in the 800m freestyle relay and a second-place result in the 400m freestyle relay. As a team, the men finished second to Dalhousie at the meet.
Collins, a third-year kinesiology student, delivered dominant performances in breaststroke events at the Kemp-Fry Invitational. She won individual titles in the 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke and was part of the first-place 400m medley relay team. Collins also qualified for three U SPORTS events, including the 400m medley relay. Her results also played a role in the Axewomen winning the team event, capturing back-to-back women's invitational titles that included their win earlier in the month at the Jack Scholz.
The swim team will continue their competition season in the new year at the AUS Invitational at Dalhousie on January 25-26 as they prepare for the AUS championship hosted February 21-23 by UNB in Saint John.
The Acadia athletes of the week are presented by McDonald's.
