Grant and Deng named Acadia athletes of the week

WOLFVILLE – Sara Grant (rugby) and Jabu Deng (soccer) have been named Acadia athletes of the week for the period ending September 22.

Grant, a fourth-year science student, scored the game-winning try in Saturday’s comeback victory over STFX for the women’s rugby program. Down 12-0 in the second half, the Axewomen came back to win 20-12 over the X-Women, with Grant’s try putting Acadia ahead 13-12. Following that, with five minutes remaining in the match, Grant scored her second try of the game. She was also named Acadia’s player of the game.

Deng, a fourth-year kinesiology student, was a key piece for the Axemen as they faced the first place Saint Mary’s Huskies and second place X-Men. He demonstrated leadership on the field over both matches, being asked to play in different positions to help the team, which included a number of goal saving clearances.
