The AAAU Athletic Awards are awarded annually on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics to two Acadia women’s varsity athletes. The recipients should be quality student-athletes who show exemplary leadership and dedication in their sport, community and classroom. Preference is to have the awards directed to two different varsity sports. The awards have been established by the Associated Alumni of Acadia University.

The Acadia University Achievement Awards are provided annually to students who contribute their outstanding talents to the Acadia experience through their participation in extracurricular activities, most notably drama, music or athletics.

The Gunnhildur Baldursson Memorial Scholarship was established in 1987 by the family and friends of Gunnhildur Sif Baldursson (1967-1987), outstanding student, gifted musician, and international athlete. The income from the endowment shall be used to recognize a student in the second or subsequent year of studies in a program offered in the Faculty of Science, who has achieved high academic standing and has represented the University in an intercollegiate athletic activity.

In any year in which no suitable candidate is found the income shall be added to the capital. Preference shall be given to female student athletes, particularly those who have represented the University at soccer.

The Ron and Cyndi Butler Award will be awarded annually on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics to a varsity athlete who is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree. Preference will be given to a student-athlete majoring in Geology. The award was established in 2008 in memory of Ron Butler (BSC, Acadia, 1962) and Cyndi Butler by their son Craig Butler (BA, Acadia, 1991). While at Acadia Ron studied Geology and was a member of the Varsity Football Team.

The Paul E. Chandler Memorial Award is awarded annually to an entering or returning student at Acadia who is a member of the Varsity Swim Team. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in scholastic and extra-curricular activities. The award is made on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics. Paul E. Chandler (B.Sc., Appl. Sc. Cert. Acadia, 1956) was a chemical engineer and captain of the Acadia Swim Team.

The Alden R. Clark Athletic Award is provided by Dr. Alden R. Clark (B.A. Acadia, 1924; D.C.L. (Hon.), 1978) of Fredericton, New Brunswick. The award is given on the recommendation of the Director of Athletics to a New Brunswick resident entering their second or subsequent year of study at Acadia who has given evidence of good academic achievement, leadership and sporting behaviour and has participated in varsity intercollegiate sport. At the discretion of the Director of Athletics, two awards of equal value may be made in any given year.

The Clow Leadership Awards are awarded annually to members of the varsity Men’s Football Team who have been a member of the team at Acadia University for at least one year, are entering their second, third or fourth year of varsity eligibility, and have a minimum sessional grade point average of 3.0. Recipients shall strive for excellence in all facets of life and show exemplary leadership qualities including leadership in community activities and character, integrity, a passion to succeed, and courage. This award is made on the recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics and the Football Head Coach. This endowed award was established in 2007 by Mr. Don Clow (BBA Acadia, 1983).

The George Wilbert Cox Cup and Medal. Through the generosity of George Wilbert Cox (B.A. Acadia, 1880; B.A. Harvard, 1895), an endowment has been received to provide a permanent annual award of a solid silver cup suitably engraved to be presented on conditions set forth by the donor to the male student in each college year who has made the most outstanding record in intercollegiate athletics, other extracurricular activities and scholarship.

The Creaser/Margeson Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to an entering or returning student participating in varsity athletics at Acadia. Preference may be given to a student entering a program in business, computer science, or economics.

The Reverend E. E. Daley Track Trophy and Prize. This trophy and prize is to be awarded annually to that student who wins the most points in track events in intercollegiate competition. The Dr. Avery deWitt Bursary is awarded annually to a varsity athlete with an interest in the study of medicine or health professions. Students must be enrolled in the Faculty of Science else the Kinesiology program. The bursary was established by family, friends, alumni and colleagues in memory of Dr. Avery deWitt (BA Acadia 1904; MD, CM McGill 1909) who served as University Physician from 1919 to 1956.

The Dr. Frank H. Eaton Award was established in memory of the Rev. Dr. Frank H. Eaton, outstanding alumnus and long-time member of the Senate and Board of Governors of Acadia University. The award is given on the recommendation of the Director of Athletics to a student entering their second, third or fourth year of undergraduate study at Acadia University who has given evidence of good academic achievement and leadership and has participated in varsity intercollegiate sport.

The Leslie Eaton Memorial Cup presented annually to the winner of the interclass quarter mile race is the gift of Mrs. Leslie E. Eaton in memory of her husband (Acadia '03).

The Michael Evans Bursary for Albertans is awarded annually to an Acadia University student who is a resident of the Province of Alberta and exhibits financial need. Preference will be given to a student who is involved in athletics, with preference to a rugby player. The bursary was established by the Evans family in 2008.

The Douglas (Red) Fraser Award is presented on recommendation of the Director of Athletics, to a returning hockey player with good academic standing who best exemplifies the qualities of sporting behaviour and leadership. Douglas (Red) Fraser graduated in 1948 with an Engineering Diploma and received his B.Sc. in 1954. He was a well known athlete both as a hockey player and a golfer. He was inducted into Acadia's Hockey Honour Roll in 1984.

The Haley Medal. This medal is awarded at Spring Convocation in conjunction with a trophy to the female  graduating student who has made the most outstanding contribution to intercollegiate athletics, other extracurricular activities and scholarship. The medal and trophy were donated in 1990 by the Haley family to honour Jean Ingraham Haley, Acadia '37, and the four generations of Haley men and women who have contributed greatly to athletics at Acadia.

The Ross Leighton Basketball Award is awarded annually, on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics in consultation with the Men’s Basketball Coach, to all-round academic students who have demonstrated leadership qualities on and off the basketball court. This award is funded by Ross Leighton (BSC Acadia, 1975) Ronald E. Smith (BBA Acadia, 1971) and David Hastings (BBA Acadia, 1974).

The John MacIntyre Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Men’s Varsity Soccer player who is in their second or subsequent year of a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Kinesiology program. Preference will be given to a student athlete of high academic standing who displays sportsmanship and strong leadership skills. The award will be chosen on the recommendation of the head coach of the Men’s Soccer team and Director of Varsity Athletics.

John MacIntyre (BSC, Acadia, 1997), as a member of the Varsity Men’s Soccer team was both an AUS All-Star and Academic All-Canadian award recipient. This endowed scholarship was established in 2005 by Mary, Gus and Janet MacIntyre in memory of their son and brother.

The MacLean Awards are awarded, on a renewable basis, to all-around academic students from Canada who have demonstrated leadership qualities and an interest in athletic activities. The awards are made, on the recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics, to students on the University's varsity football team. The awards may be held for a maximum of five years. This gifted award was established by Donald MacLean CAS 57' and Patricia MacLean in 2005.

The Connie MacNeil Athletics Award is awarded annually to a student on a varsity athletics team at Acadia University. The award is on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics. The endowed award was established in 2007 by The John and Judy Bragg Family Foundation, in consultation with the MacNeil Family, to honour Mr. Conrad (Connie) MacNeil (BA Acadia 1952; BED Acadia 1953) who was one of John Bragg’s teachers at Oxford Regional HighSchool. Connie was a proud Acadia Axeman hockey player from
1949 - 1953. Since returning to the Wolfville area in 1964, Connie has been closely involved with Acadia as a part-time staff member, Alumni board member (2001-2003) and was the founding chairman of the Acadia Blueline Club.

The Jim ‘Lefty’ MacVicar Memorial Award is awarded annually to a Nova Scotia student entering a degree program at Acadia University with a minimum 75% entering average. The award will be made on the basis of academic performance and commitment to athletics prior to attending AcadiaUniversity. Preference will be given to a student who is a member of an Acadia University varsity athletics team.

The endowed award was established in 2007 by The John and Judy Bragg Family Foundation, in consultation with the MacVicar Family, to honour late Jim “Lefty” MacVicar (BA Acadia, 1955; BED Acadia 1956) who taught John Bragg at Oxford High School. Jim was a proud Axeman on the Acadia University hockey team.

The Vere Karsdale Mason Scholarship. An annual award is provided to honour Vere Karsdale Mason, Rhodes Scholar, who graduated from Acadia in 1914 with honours in four subjects and an "A" in athletics. He fell in action in August 1916. The winner shall be a student who has completed the first year and who combines academic achievement with citizenship and sporting behaviour. Preference shall be given to a student from a farming community.

The James and Dorothy McNally Bursaries are provided to two students from the Atlantic Provinces, in their second or subsequent year of an undergraduate degree, with a minimum 70% academic average. The recipients will have demonstrated strong leadership-character type qualities and financial need. One recipient is to be a varsity athlete and will be selected based on the recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics. The second is to be involved in extra-curricular activities, other than varsity athletics, and will be selected by the University Bursary and Loan Committee.

The awards have been established to honour James and Dorothy McNally by their children Carole (UNB), Daniel (Acadia), Stephen (Acadia), Mary (DAL), Gregory (DAL), Edward (Acadia) and John (Acadia), all who benefited greatly from their parents commitment to providing and supporting them in their educational and extra-curricular pursuits.

The Dr. J. Arnold Noble Memorial Prize is annually awarded, on recommendation of the Director of Athletics, to a superior senior student athlete who combines academic excellence and outstanding athletic performance in either basketball or football. The scholarship was established by Mrs. Carolyn Noble, B.A. (Acadia '25), her family and friends, in memory of her husband, Dr. J. Arnold Noble, B.A. (Acadia '26), M.B.Ch.B., F.R.C.S. (Edinburgh), F.R.C.S (Canada), O.B.E.

The Kristin Pipe Memorial Award is awarded annually on recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics and the Varsity Football Coach to a second or subsequent year Acadia varsity football player. The recipient should be committed to excellence both as a student and athlete while demonstrating exemplary leadership and dedication both on and off the field. The recipient will demonstrate similar characteristics to which made Kristin Pipe so special.

The award is in memory of Kristin Pipe (BBA Acadia, 2003) who attended Acadia University from 1999 until 2004 and played quarterback. Kristin always put the team first and demonstrated outstanding leadership. He was a true champion and positive role model, who fought a private, personal health battle while at Acadia before passing away shortly thereafter in 2005 at the age of 26.

The Kevin Powell Memorial Award is awarded annually to a student in the second, third or fourth year of a degree program. This award is designated for a member of the Acadia Axemen Hockey team who demonstrates character, team leadership and motivation, as well as community spirit and involvement. In the event that there are no eligible members of the Acadia Axemen Hockey team, the award may be made to any active varsity athlete. The endowed award was established in 2004 by Joyce and Grant Powell and family in memory of their son Kevin.

The Steve Pound Basketball Award is awarded annually to a student entering a degree program at Acadia University. Based on the recommendation of the Director of Varsity Athletics and the Varsity Basketball Coaches, the award will be given to a student who intends to be a member of an Acadia varsity basketball team. This endowed award was established in 2006 by Mrs. Jean (BA Acadia 1939) & Dr. Jim (BSC, DSC Acadia 1937, 1962) Beveridge in honour of Dr. Steve Pound (BSc, BEd Acadia 1972, 1975; MSC Dalhousie 1977; PHD Université Laval 1994).

Dr. Pound starred as a basketball Axeman for four seasons and received many individual
honours during this time. He was also an outstanding performer on the 1970-71 Canadian Intercollegiate championship team. In 1997 he was inducted into Acadia University’s Sports Hall of Fame. Dr. Pound returned to Acadia in 1986 and served as Executive Director of the Associated Alumni of Acadia University for more than a decade. Dr. Pound is a life-long supporter of Acadia University.

The Gideon Prescott Award was established by Amy K. Prescott (B.Sc. Acadia, 1924; M.A., 1933) in memory of her father, Gideon Knight Prescott, formerly of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The award is made annually to a continuing student in recognition of good academic performance, participation in varsity intercollegiate athletics and illustration of sportsmanship and leadership qualities.

The David Ryan Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family of David Charles Ryan (B.Sc. Acadia, 1975) in recognition of his many contributions as a friend, colleague and athlete. The scholarship is awarded annually to a student who has achieved at least B level academic standing, displays excellent character, and has represented the University in an intercollegiate athletic activity.

The Bill Smith Memorial Scholarship. An endowed scholarship provided by Mr. and Mrs. David Alman Smith of Moncton, New Brunswick, in memory of their son, Cadet Officer Willis (Bill) Smith (Acadia, Ex '55) who was killed in training in 1952.- To be awarded annually by the faculty to an Acadia student at the end of the first year on grounds of sporting behaviour, scholarship and leadership.
