Bynkoski leads Axemen to 47-9 win over Huskies

(Halifax, NS) Friday night at Huskies Stadium, the Acadia Axemen defeated the Saint Mary¹s Huskies 47-9 in week five of AUS football action extending the Huskies losing streak to 13 games.

Subway player of the game Nickolas Bynkoski (Duncan, BC) went 19 for 23 for 262 yards and four touchdowns. Derek Wodz (Lakeside, NS) had 11 carries for 86 yards, and Jaylen McRae (Boston, MA) had 5 catches for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns to power the Acadia offence. Derek Naugler (Truro, NS) had 6 tackles and a forced fumble, and Brian Doyle (Syracuse, NY) had 5 tackles and a sack to anchor the Axemen defence. Senior linebacker Drew Morris, who played half of the game became the AUS All-time leader in tackles after posting

The Axemen had 510 yards of total offence, compared to 173 for the Huskies.

The Axemen wasted little time getting on the board as Bynkoski found McRae for a 25 yard touchdown reception to make it 7-0 for Acadia. Bynkoski then connected with Brian Jones (Enfield, NS) for a 21 yard major to make it 14-0 after the first quarter. The second quarter saw, Bynkoski and McRae hooked up again from 37 yards to increase the Axemen lead to 21-0.

Bynkoski then took it in himself from 8 yards to make it 28-0 Acadia.

Saint Mary¹s got on the board when a broken punt by the Axemen,which eventually lead to a 40 yard field goal from Ideen Samadi (Edmonton, AB) to narrow the deficit to 28-3 after the first half. In the third quarter, Bynkoski and Wodz connected again from 17 yards to make it 35-3. A 35 yard field goal from Jeffrey Beattie (Hamilton, ON), who also hit all 6 of his extra point chances, put the Axemen up 38-3 after the third. In the fourth, Suleiman Semalulu (Gatineau, QC) returned a punt 25 yards into the house to further widen the gap to 45-3. Trevor Erdman (Ardrossan, AB) found Rick LeMonignan (Edmonton, AB) from 14 yards to make the score 45-9 after a failed 2 point conversion. Saint Mary¹s then conceded a safety to bring the game to its final score of 47-9.

Makenzie Fox (Bedford, NS) had 7 tackles and Omer Abdallah (Ajax, ON) had 5.5 tackles to lead the Huskies on defence. Erdman went 13 for 27 for 157 yards and a touchdown, and LeMonignan had 6 catches for 51 yards and a major to anchor the Huskies offence.

Both teams play their next game on October 17th at 2:00 pm. The Axemen host the Mount Allison Mounties and the Huskies are at home to the Saint Francis Xavier X-Men in their 2015 homecoming game.
