Welcher joins Axemen receiving core

The Axemen receiving core continues to grow with west coast talent with the commitment of Nick Welcher.

A 5’11, 180 lb receiver, the Calgary native comes to Acadia from the Kamloops Broncos of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL), joining his teammate Garrett McCarthy on the trip east.

“Nick is another junior player who looks to come in and be a solid contributor to our receiving core early and often,” said head coach Jeff Cummins. “He played in Kamloops for a former Axeman and has an understanding of our expectations. Nick has high expectations for himself, and his abilities and we hope to see them come to fruition.”

In 2023 with the Broncos he had 328 receiving yards and two touchdowns for Kamloops, while being named the team’s rookie of the year.

Prior to that played for the All Saints High School Saints. He was rookie of the year in his Grade 11 season, following that with a big senior year. As team captain, on top of 1,200 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns, he was named a division all-star, team MVP and runner-up for league MVP.

“It means so much to be able to go to the university level of football. It’s been a dream of mine forever and Acadia is a great place to continue my career.”

Welcher will be working towards a business degree while attending Acadia.
