Shad McLachlan enters his 15^th season as an assistant coach with the Axemen.  Coach McLachlan began his career at Acadia in 2007 as the linebacker’s coach.

In 2011, he was named Defensive Coordinator and enters his 11^th season as the Axemen’s defensive bench boss. During his tenure as defensive coordinator, the Axemen defense has had 35 AUS defensive All-Stars and 15 U-Sport All Canadians, while producing a Defense that has ranked in the U-SPORTS top 10 on multiple occasions. Coach McLachlan has been a part of four Acadia AUS Championship teams (2011, 2012, 2017 and 2019) and has coached the AUS Defensive Player of the Year 4 times.

A native of Torrance California, Coach McLachlan spent three seasons playing linebacker for the Axemen.  During his time as a player, he earned 1^st Team All-Canadian honors as well as being voted the AUS Defensive Player of the Year. 

Prior to coaching at Acadia, coach McLachlan spent one season as the linebacker’s coach at Torrance High School in Torrance California.  A proud Acadia Alum, coach McLachlan graduated with a BA in History (05’) B.Ed (10’) and M.Ed. (19’)
