Horton High School basketball's MacVicar commits

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia Athletics and Axemen basketball head coach Kevin Duffie are pleased to announce the commitment of Port Williams, NS native Kaj MacVicar.

A 6'7 forward, MacVicar will join the Axemen in the fall of 2021.

MacVicar plays at the local Horton High School. He has been a familiar face around Nova Scotia basketball, competing with Basketball Nova Scotia teams every summer since he started at the U14 level. Most recently, he was named as a member of the U17 Team Nova Scotia that was set to compete at the 2020 Canadian National Championship in Kingston, ON before the global pandemic halted those plans.

In his grade 11 year, MacVicar led the Horton Griffins to a 4th place finish at the NSSAF Provincial D1 Championship. Horton his poised to be one of top contenders for the provincial title in his grade 12 year.

Kaj is a unique combination of size and skill as a basketball player. He is an effective two-way player who can play both inside and out, and defend multiple positions. Look for Kaj to make an immediate impact the Axemen.

"We are excited about the addition of Kaj to the program. We have seen Kaj grow into a fine basketball player in our backyard and are beyond thrilled for a local player of his caliber to be joining the Axemen," said head Coach Kevin Duffie.

"Kaj is a mature young man and he fits the strong combination of academics and athletics that is often found in student-athletes on our campus. Kaj has a proven work ethic and is more than willing to put in the requirements to be an impactful player at this level."

As a high-level student who will be acquiring a Bachelor of Kinesiology at Acadia, the 18-year-old noted his choice of Acadia was due in part to the focused attention Acadia University could offer.

"I am thrilled to be joining the Acadia men's basketball program.  I have grown up watching the team and I am excited that Coach Duffie has chosen me to be part of the longstanding tradition that is Axemen basketball," said MacVicar.

"It is a huge honour to play for this team, with the support of my family and friends.  I am equally excited to begin attending for the academics and the overall experience, I know Acadia can offer. I can't wait to get started." added MacVicar.

Although the Axemen had their formal AUS scheduled cancelled this year, they are hopeful to play a number of exhibition games in the 2021 winter term, depending on health authority guidelines in the new year.
