Axemen pick up key points with win over Panthers

WOLFVILLE – Tied in the standings with UPEI heading into the night, Acadia picked up a big 104-75 victory over the Panthers to move up the ladder in the AUS, which may prove to be vital down the stretch as no playoff spots are clinched for the AUS men's basketball championship as of Friday night.

Glen Cox (Scotsburn, NS) led the way with 28 points in the victory. He sits second in the nation after his night with 25.8 points per game. He added six assists, five rebounds and a steal on the night.

Off the bench Samou Brayan Kone (Thiais, Ile-de-France) had a season-high 15 points for the Axemen, while Erik Hayden (Truro, NS) also had a season high as a he finished with an efficient 12 points in 13 minutes.

For UPEI, Kyree Thompson (North Preston, NS) had a team-high 15 points. Starters Sam Chisholm (Bridgetown, NS) and Kamari Scott (Malton, ON) were the only other players in double digits, finishing with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Saturday afternoon UPEI (6-9) is back in action as they travel to Halifax to face the Saint Mary's Huskies (8-6). Tip-off is at 8 p.m. Acadia (7-8) is back in action on Wednesday night at StFX (9-6) before returning home to host the UNB Reds (5-9) on Saturday night.
