Axemen welcome goaltender Nicholas Sheehan

WOLFVILLE – Acadia men’s hockey has added goaltender Nicholas Sheehan to their 2024-25 recruitment class.

The Moncton native joins the Axemen from the Edmundston Blizzard of the Maritime Hockey League (MHL) where he had an impressive 30-9-0 record over the 2023-24 season with a 2.29 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. For his play he was named the league’s goaltender of the year and first team all-star.

“We were very happy when doing our research on Nic from many goalie coaches who we trust,” said head coach Darren Burns. “We feel he has a lot of potential, wants to get better and will be someone who will learn from veteran Thomas Couture what it takes to excel. Nic is a well-respected teammate, and we really liked his attitude during the recruiting process. We are excited about him joining our program.”

Prior to his time in the MHL, he spent three seasons in the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He spent 2021-23 with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada where he played 50 games over two seasons. Prior to that he had played for his hometown Moncton Wildcats. In total he had a 3.70 goals-against average and .882 save percentage over his QMJHL career.

“It is and incredible honour to come play for sure a prestigious and first-class program like Acadia,” said Sheehan. “I feel very lucky that the coaching staff decided that I was fit to become an Axeman and I’m excited to get started in Wolfville.”

Before being drafted to the Q, he spent two seasons in the New Brunswick-Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League (NBPEIMMHL) with the Saint John Vitos and Moncton Flyers where he posted an impressive 22-5-0 record with a 2.37 GAA and .925 save percentage.

The Axemen will continue to announce their 2024-25 recruitment class over the coming weeks, with the AUS schedule expected to be announced in late spring.
