Axemen improve to 2-0 with 8-0 win over Mounties

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axemen soccer team continued their dominant play this weekend with a 8-0 win over the visiting Mount Allison Mounties.

Axeman Cooper Coats (Halifax, N.S.) kept the "pedal to the medal" with his second 3-goal performance of the weekend, starting the AUS season out with six goals in two season opening games.

Second year forward Travis Fenning (Ottawa, Ont.) and senior forward Matthew Berrigan (Halifax, N.S.) each added two goals.

All of Coats' and Fenning's goals came in the first half of the game. Berrigan's first goal was at the 38 minute-mark while his second was early in the second half.

All-Canadian defender Andrew Snyder (Bridgewater, N.S.) topped the bucket with his fifth career goal in the final five minutes of the game.

Cory Cadeau (Coldbrook, N.S.) was named the Subway Player of the Game for his effort, while Bradley Payne (Quispamsis, N.B.) was given the honours for the Mounties.

Mountie keeper Seiwa Lui (Warabi, Saitama) repelled two of ten shots on goal, while Axemen keeper Pietro Nottegar was tested with one shot.

The Axemen head to UPEI this Friday night to take on the tough UPEI Panthers while the Mounties return home to host Cape Breton after their Friday road game at Saint Mary's.
