WOLFVILLE, N.S. - There was no shortage of goals for the Axemen as they take their first game of the season 8-1 against the Mount Allison Mounties in front of a boisterous crowd of over 600 in attendance.

The Axemen wasted no time opening the scoring, with a goal off a hard strike from fourth-year midfielder Spencer Buck (Quispamsis, N.B.).

Acadia's first goal was only the beginning to a four-goal half, including Buck's second - an accurate shot from just less than 30 metres out. As a result of his two spectacular goals, Buck was named the Subway Player of Game.

The Axemen made several aggressive rushes on the outside and were able to beat Mount Allison's defence with quick passes into the middle. Gordon McLaughlin (Peterborough, Ont.) and Zachary Visser (Winsloe, P.E.I.) each scored their first goals of the season to put Acadia up 4-0 at halftime.

The Mounties were unable to register a shot on goal until the 49th minute, where a cross from Alex Bennett (Falmouth, N.S.) was redirected by Hirokazu Hasegawa (Kounan, Aichi, Japan) to bring the game within three.

Shortly after, Acadia responded with two goals of their own - one from rookie Joe Latrou (Timberlea, N.S.) and another coming from McLaughlin.

Ten minutes after his first, Iatrou would add his second of the season - a vicious one-timer into the top right corner of the net.

With twelve minutes left in the game, Maxwell Guthrie (Ottawa, Ont.) gave the Axemen their eighth goal.

After compiling a seven-goal lead, the Axemen defence kept control of the ball to close out the rest of the game. Pietro Nottegar (Dartmouth, N.S.) secured his first victory of the season, while Michael Cormier (Margaree Valley, N.S.) made 14 saves on the way to his team's first loss.

Acadia will try to improve to 2-0 when they travel to Halifax to take on Saint Mary's Sunday.

The Mount Allison Mounties will go for their first win of the season when they host Dalhousie on Sunday.
