Axemen fall to Capers in Sydney

Sydney, N.S. – The Cape Breton University (CBU) Capers (3-1-1) – ranked third in U SPORTS – scored a convincing 5-0 victory over the visiting Acadia Axemen (1-4-0) in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon at the Cape Breton Health Recreation Complex.

Forward Kairo Coore (Whitby, ON) – the Subway player of the game – led the potent Caper attack with four goals, while captain Euan Bauld (Musselburgh, UK) chipped in a single.
Charlie Waters (Blackpool, UK), who was a thorn in the Axemen's side throughout the match,
contributed two spectacular assists.

Coore opened the scoring in the 7th minute, when he punched a rebound into a gaping net behind Acadia goalkeeper Nic Jeffries (Rothesay, N.B.). The opportunity came after Waters had hit the goal post.

"It's a very, very big win for our team," Coore said after the match, noting that the Capers were
disappointed in their performance on Saturday in a scoreless tie with the Memorial Sea-Hawks.
He adds, "We came out today with a different mentality; we were going to leave everything on the field."

Mitchell Wong (Bowmanville ON) threatened to double the edge a few minutes later, but Jeffries made a sliding save on his hard shot.

In the 10th minute, Jeffries made his best stop of the afternoon when he soared to deflect a Cameron
Kilbride (Blackpool, UK) blast from just outside the 18-yard box over the crossbar.

Bauld headed in a Waters' corner kick in the 18th minute to make it 2-0 for the Capers.

In the 43rd minute, Coore bested Jefferies with a perfect shot after making a highlight-reel rush deep into the Acadia zone.

In the second half, on a set-up by Mateo Goldsztein (Winnipeg, MB) in the 60th minute, Coore tucked a shot inside the goal post behind Jefferies for the hat-trick marker.

Coore wrapped up the stellar four-goal effort in the 66th minute, when he redirected home a cross from Waters. Wong started the tic-tac-toe play with a pass to Waters after putting moves on a pair of Axemen defenders.

Daniel Clarke (Milton Keyes, UK) recorded the shutout for the Capers.

Both teams will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2, when the Axemen visit the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax, while the Capers will travel to Antigonish to face the STFX X-Men.
Game time for each match-up is 7:15 p.m.
