Axemen wrap up 2021 season with loss to UPEI

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – A young Axemen soccer squad ended their 2021 season with a hard-fought 2-0 loss to the visiting UPEI Panthers. The win moves the Panthers into a position of clinching a berth into next weekend's AUS Championship weekend.

Ehab Moustafa, who was named the Subway Player of the Game, scored both goals for the Panthers.

Moustafa's first goal came at the 27th minute when a long pass traveled over his head and the Acadia defender. Moustafa won the race to the ball and tipped it in close-over keeper Micheal O'Flynn for the first of two goals.

The Panthers would push the game out of reach at the 68th minute when Moustafa tapped in a loose ball after O'Flynn made the initial save from a shot just inside of the 18-yard box.

The Axemen were persistent throughout the game, landing seven shots on goal, but Evan Couturier was sharp in keeping the ball out of the net.

The Panthers improve to a record of 5-3-4, squeezing into post-season play. The outcome of Memorial's last game against Moncton will determine whether UPEI finishes sixth or fifth in the final standings.

The Axemen will take the positives from this season after a 1-10-1 finish.
