Bain scores twice to lifts Huskies past Axemen

WOLFVILLE – The Saint Mary's Huskies were lifted to their 4-1 victory over the Acadia Axemen to open the season off a pair of goals by Woody Bains.

Sean Freeman opened the scoring for Saint Mary's in the first minute of play.

Bains scored in the sixth and 40th minutes to put the Huskies ahead 3-0 at the half.

Acadia's Michael O'Flynn cut into the lead in the 52nd minute.

Saint Mary's Orion Wiersma rounded out the scoring as Ryan Davis made two saves in the victory.

Dylan Legere made two saves in the loss with Acadia.

The Axemen (0-1-0) will now travel to Charlottetown to face the UPEI Panthers (1-0-0) on Sunday. Saint Mary's (1-0-0) is off until Sunday, Sept. 10 when they face StFX in Antigonish.
