Acadia Swim team makes a strong Day 2 push

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - The Dalhousie Tigers claimed nine event wins to take Day 2 of the 2017 AUS Swimming Championships. But Acadia's swim team also turned heads with three victories Saturday night and a medal take of 10 in Day 2 of competition.

Adam Deutsch (200m breaststroke), Brett Liem (50m freestyle) and Alison MacEachern (200m butterfly) each captured gold in their respective events, leading Acadia to 10 medals – three gold, four silver and three bronze.

"I'm over the moon," said Acadia head coach Gary Macdonald. "Our kids took a while to get the wins, but we had three straight tonight. For a developing team, we're pretty pumped."

Other notable medal winners included four silver medals. Brett Liem grabbed a silver in the 50m Butterfly while teammate Patrick Henger took second place in the 200m Butterfly and brother Ben Henger was awarded a silver medal in the 100m Backstroke.

On the women's side, Nicole Windsor captured her second medal of the championship with a bronze in the 50m Butterfly. Hannah Dorion finished second in the 200m Breaststroke.

The 800m Freestyle Relay reaped additional medals. The Axewomen captured bronze, while the Axemen took home silver.

"Day 2 was a continuance of Day 1, where the Axemen came to compete and rattled off probably their best night of finals in two years", noted Coach MacDonald.  "After a few close calls and several silver and bronze medals they finally arrived at gold with three victories"

Adding, "The excitement was off the charts. Heading into tomorrow both teams are in second place. Everyone is looking forward to the final day and the confidence is growing."

The Axewomen currently sit in second place in the team standings only five points ahead of Mount Allison. The Axemen are also in second place in the team standings with a 128 point lead over third place Memorial.
