MONTREAL – The second day of competition at the U SPORTS swimming championships saw Ella Collins with the top finish for Acadia, similar to the opening day of the three-day event.
Collins qualified for the Olympic trials and finished sixth in the country in the 200m breaststroke final with a time of 2:38.11, finishing where she was placed following the prelims earlier in the day.
The next final of the night saw Sophie Rooney finish fourth in the B final of the women’s 100m backstroke with a time of 1:05.52, 12th overall nationally. She just missed the A final, finishing in 10th place amongst prelim results with a time of 1:02.66.
Gordon Shortt was in the water next for the Axemen in the 200 Medley B final, which he qualified for with a time of 2:02.94. He finished third with a time of 2:08.19 to be 11th overall nationally. His finish earned him a spot at the Olympic trials.
Rooney’s second final of the night was the 50m butterfly C final. She missed the B final by 0.02 with a time of 28.05. In the C final she finished fourth with a time of 28.49.
To wrap up the day the men’s s 4x200 freestyle relay team of Bo Stokesbury-Price, Nate Thompson, Shortt and David Harvey were in the timed final event. After two heats they finished 12th with a time of 7:57.02.
Earlier on Friday, Mazier and Shortt competed in the 50m freestyle prelims, finishing 32nd and 45th respectively with times of 23.14 and 23.50.
