Swimming season concludes in Montreal

MONTREAL – The final day of the U SPORTS swimming championships wrapped up Saturday night with the Acadia women’s 4x100 medley being the last event of the weekend.

The women’s relay team of Sophie Rooney, Ella Collins, Sara Bennett and Emma Hamlyn finished seventh with a time of 4:26.05.

Overall, the Axewomen finished 12th in the team standings with 135 points, while the Axemen finished 20th with 51 points.

For the third night, Collins had the best result for Acadia. She finished seventh in the country with a time of 33.17 in women’s 50m breaststroke A final, which also qualified her for the Olympic trials in the event.

Gordon Shortt was the next final of the night, competing in the men’s 50m breaststroke C final. Finishing fifth in his event (21st overall), he had a time of 29.58, which qualified him for the Olympic trials.

The final individual final event for Acadia was Rooney in the 200m backstroke B final. She finished sixth with a time of 2:23.58 to finish 14th overall.

In the morning session, Marcus Vaillancourt and Lucas Mazier competed individually in the 100m freestyle prelims, missing the finals with times of 52.65 and 52.89 respectively.
