WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen lost their first exhibition game of the season against the Lethbridge Pronghorns 77-75 on Friday afternoon.

The Axewomen came strong out of the gate and found themselves with an early lead, but the Pronghorns were gradually able to match their score by the end of the first quarter. Both teams had 18 after the first 10 minutes 

Lethbridge took the slight edge in the second quarter and brought a 1-point lead into halftime. Lethbridge had taken 12 fewer field-goals attempted than the Axewomen by this point despite only having 3 less field-goals made.

The score at half favoured the Pronghorns 32-31. Lethbridge's Kacie Bosch (Lethbridge, Alta.) led all players with 12 points at half. She would finish with a team-high 16 points and added 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Bosch was named Lethbridge's Subway Player of the Game.

The Axewomen went off in the third quarter, making 5 of their 8 attempted 3-pointers. Acadia's Eva Widmeyer (Dartmouth, N.S.) shot 3/6 (50%) from three in the game and finished with 17 points, earning her Acadia's Player of the Game award.

The fourth quarter began poorly for the Axewomen, allowing the Pronghorns to go on a 17-3 run. Though the Axewomen were able to regain themselves, it was too little, too late. Down by 2 with mere seconds left, the Axewomen were forced to take a long 3-point at the buzzer instead of getting an open shot.

The final score read 77-75 for the Pronghorns.

The Axewomen don't play their next exhibition game until October 18th against MacEwan University.

The Pronghorns make a trip to PEI on Saturday to face off against the Panthers.
