When you know, you know: Halifax's Olivia Logan commits to Axewomen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Olivia Logan wasn't wasting any time choosing her destination to play university basketball, and for her, there was only one choice. "Acadia has always had a special place in my heart, they are the team that first inspired me to play basketball at an elite level," she said.

A dynamic, skilled, and physical wing player out of Halifax West, the 2025 graduate is one of the top players in Atlantic Canada and has become one of the most sought-after players for university coaches in the country. "Liv has clearly established herself as a player that every university team would want on their roster, so it was a top priority for us to ensure she was wearing an Axewomen jersey when that time comes," said Acadia head coach, Len Harvey.

Logan has a long list of accomplishments at a young age. She was named the Metro League Rookie of the Year this past season after a city championship and provincial silver medal with the Halifax West Warriors. She was also a key member of the Basketball Nova Scotia U15 provincial team that captured a silver medal at the Canada Basketball National Championships in the summer of 2022 and is now playing for the BNS U17 team that will compete in the Nationals in Calgary this summer.

She also competed in England at the International Children's Games as part of a 3x3 team from Nova Scotia. "Olivia is an exceptional student-athlete with a magnetic personality that lights up the gym. She epitomizes what it is to be a hard worker, and truly earns everything she gets," says her coach at Halifax West, Trevor Walter. "Olivia has a very determined mindset, a high fundamental skill level, and a great motor."

Logan was very clear in her reasons when asked about her early commitment to the Axewomen. "Even though it's early, this wasn't a decision I made quickly or without a lot of thought. I made this decision at this time because, after all of my research, I know it is the same decision I would make in Grade 11 or in Grade 12. I am absolutely solid with Acadia being my choice, so it makes sense to commit now and eliminate all the noise and stress that surrounds recruiting and put that energy into working hard and getting better."

After her performances at Canada Basketball Nationals and her first season in high school playing at Halifax West, the recruiting interest and attention picked up very quickly from universities across the country, which was also a key factor in the early commitment for the humble Logan. "The recruiting process can be such a distraction. I had a little taste of it and that was enough for me. I just want to focus on basketball and not on the exposure side of things. The whole scene takes away from the enjoyment I have when I am on the court, I can relax and really enjoy playing for the next couple of years and put all of my energy into being the best player I can be when I get to Acadia."

Axewomen coach Len Harvey is understandably excited about securing a commitment from Logan at this time. "We felt strongly that Liv was someone who shared our values and understood what we're about here at Acadia. She's been committed to the game and in my opinion, has been focused on the right things in terms of developing as a player for a number of years now. She has a strong support system around her with her family and coaches, and she's very grounded in the things that actually give her development traction. She's going to be a heck of a player at this level and I'm excited to get the chance to coach her."

Logan is equally as excited about the prospect of putting on the Axewomen jersey. "I wanted to play in a place where the team and community held the same small-town values that I have and I wanted to play for a coach who knew me, believed in me, and who I believed in just as much. Small class sizes, professors who know you, unbelievable fans, and a team with a reputation for winning and strong values. All of this in a beautiful town where my friends and family can watch me play, Acadia checked every box for me!"
