Head coach Len Harvey joined Axewomen program in 2015, helping to guide the team to two consecutive AUS championships in 2018 and 2019, and a 2021-22 championship along with four U SPORTS national championship appearances, a U SPORTS national No. 1 ranking in 2018 and 2022, and a program-best fifth-place finish at U SPORTS nationals in 2023.

The Axewomen have made the playoffs each of his seven complete seasons, including reaching the last six consecutive AUS finals. Harvey was named the Carolyn Savoy Memorial Award winner in 2018 as the AUS coach of the year.

Harvey has accumulated 101 wins and 33 regular season losses over his tenure with the Axewomen. During his time as coach, the Axewomen program has produced three U SPORTS major award winners, seven U SPORTS All-Canadians, 11 AUS major award winners, 16 AUS all-stars, and 66 Academic All-Canadians.

A native of Baddeck, N.S., Harvey is more than familiar with Nova Scotia basketball, and has an array of coaching experience at the provincial and high school level, coaching many Basketball Nova Scotia provincial teams, including the 2013 Canada Games women’s basketball team.

Harvey graduated from Acadia University in 2003 with a B.A., and completed his B.Ed. from Cape Breton University in 2004. He went on to become a secondary school teacher for nine years before taking over as Head Coach of the Mount Royal University Cougars. He led the Cougars in Canada West competition for two seasons after the university joined U SPORTS in 2012.

Prior to taking over the Mount Royal University Cougars program in 2013, Harvey was an assistant coach with the Cape Breton University Capers women’s team from 2009-12 and an assistant coach with the Cape Breton Capers men’s team from 2011-13. As an assistant at Cape Breton University, Harvey was a part of three AUS championships, and one CIS/SIC bronze medal.

Harvey and his wife, Kristen, have two young sons, Jackson, and Cameron.
