Rugby Axewomen improve to 2-1 with 84-0 win

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – The Axewomen rugby team handed the visiting Saint Mary's Huskies an 84-0 loss and improve to 2-1 with three weeks remaining in the regular season.

First year Axewomen Emma Pfleiderer (Williams Lake, B.C), Nicole Pahl (Markham, Ont.), Annie Kennedy (Kingston, Ont.) and Natasha Johnson (Williams Lake, B.C.) each added two trys to the Acadia point total, while Kennedy added six of seven converts for the win.

The Axewomen took a commanding 31-0 lead in the opening half on trys from Kelsey Brumm (Dartmouth, N.S.), Monique Coffey (Dauphin, Man.), Angela Govier (New Dundee, Ont.), Pfleiderer and Johnson.

The momentum continued in Acadia's favour with 9 additional trys  with singles coming from Harley Tucker (Black Diamon, B.C), Tamara Dondi (Caledon, Ont.) and Laura Klingenberg (Owen Sound, Ont).

The Huskies have been out-scored 268-12 in their last three games and Subway Player of the Game Michaela Haley was asked how they prepared this week for the Huskies.

"We came to practice working on the fundamentals and basic skills to make us better for this game and for future games", noted Haley.

Kate Murray (Dartmouth, Ont.) received player of the game honours for the Huskies.

The Axewomen now will prepare to meet the first place StFX X-Women next Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in Antigonish while the Huskies travel to UPEI next Saturday afternoon.
