HALIFAX, N.S. —The Acadia Axewomen defeated the Huskies Sunday afternoon, 77-17 from Huskies Stadium.
Acadia, ranked eighth in U SPORTS, opened up the scoring with an early try and missed the convert and led 5-0.
The Axewomen extended their lead to 10-0 with another try but struggled with their kicking game with 26 minutes left in the half.
Acadia's third try came as the Axewomen took advantage of a line break and led 15-0.
Five more tries and made converts saw Acadia lead 48-0 with seven minutes left in the first half.
Saint Mary's scored their first try off a missed tackle and a great line break and trailed Acadia 48-5 as the convert attempt rattled off the goal bar.
SMU scored a late try as the first half expired and trailed Acadia 48-10 at half.
The Axewomen would outscore Saint Mary's 29-7 in the second half and held on for the 77-17 victory.
Acadia improves to 2-0 on the year while SMU drops to 0-2 in conference play.
Up next for Acadia is a Top-10 road trip versus the U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX on Saturday, September 22th while SMU plays hosts to 0-2 UPEI September 23rd.
Both matches are set for 2:00 p.m.
