Axewomen Soccer sign Suburban FC Centre Back Jodrey

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University and the Department of Athletics are pleased to announce the commitment of Suburban Football Club Centre Back Lauren Jodrey to the Axewomen Soccer program.

Born in Langley, B.C., Jodrey moved to Hammonds Plains, N.S. in 2015 and quickly became a regular member of the Nova Scotia Provincial team.

"I have always been interested in Acadia University because my dad (Rob) is alumni and played on the men's soccer team. I really like the style of play and the close bond that the team has on and off the field." Said Jodrey.

"Going into the 2018 season with several new recruits, I see the potential for myself to make an impact on the field. I also look forward to learning from the older girls and further developing as a player," concluded Jodrey.

"Lauren is extremely dominant in the air, she's very athletic and reads the game very well. She can be both demanding of her teammates but also well liked so brings some leadership qualities and she is constantly looking to improve her game.  She has a high ceiling and she is really going to grow at Acadia," pointed out head coach Amit Batra.

Jodrey was named as an alternate to Nova Scotia's bronze medal-winning Summer Canada Games team.

In the fall, Jodrey was instrumental in delivering Suburban FC's third consecutive Nova Scotia Soccer League Championship and capped the season with a Bronze Medal at Club Nationals this past October.

Jodrey also captained the C.P. Allen High School Cheetahs the past two seasons and was named their rookie of the year in 2015.

Suburban FC Assistant Technical Director Jared Griffiths coached the bronze medal winning team and shared his thoughts on Jodrey.

"Lauren is an extremely determined footballer. She is very competitive and is willing to sacrifice to improve each and every day.  She is one of the top players in the air and will make an impact both offensively and defensively winning flighted balls. She also has an excellent range in her distribution. Lauren is an excellent leader who demands a high level from herself and all those around her. Her passion for the game has been rewarded with the chance to play at Acadia," said Griffiths.

Jodrey will be entering Acadia's well-regarded Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Political Science this coming fall.
