U SPORTS No. 10 ranked Axewomen remain undefeated

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The U SPORTS No. 10 ranked Acadia Axewomen continue their early-season hot streak as they defeat Université de Moncton 3-0 on Friday.

It didn't take long for Acadia to take the upper hand, with Jackie Stevens (Kentville, N.S.) rushing in to pick up a wide-open rebound and her first goal of the season.

In the 35th minute, it looked like Acadia was about to go up by 2, but a diving save from Moncton goalie Chelsea Burnham (St-Jean, N.B.) kept the team within 1.

Acadia finally found their second goal when Jenna Boudreau (Halifax, N.S.) stole the ball from Moncton's keeper and directed it in with great patience. The Axewomen maintained the lead for the remainder of the half and started the second frame ahead 2-0.

Early in the second half, Boudreau forced another turn-over in close and weaved her way through several defenders before netting her second goal of the evening. For securing the victory for her team, Boudreau was named the Subway Player of the Game.

After a full 90 minutes, Acadia took the game 3-0.

Axewomen goalie Spencer Skinner (Hammond Plains, N.S.) was confident in net all game and made four saves on her way to a shutout.

Acadia Head Coach Amit Batra has been very impressed with the chemistry the women have developed with each other and their "uncanny" understanding of where they need to be. Their simplistic play-style has proved to be effective, but Batra notes they are still looking for ways to further enhance their game.

Acadia will attempt to maintain their perfect record during their home game against Memorial University on Sunday afternoon.

Moncton will look for their first win when they host Saint Mary's University this Sunday.
