Layden to join Axewomen in fall of 2020

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Acadia Athletics and Axewomen soccer head coach Amit Batra are pleased to announce the commitment of Dartmouth N.S. native Curran Layden.

A versatile player who can play in wide positions or midfield, Layden was identified early for the Nova Scotia Regional Excel program (REX) as part of the Canadian National Youth Team pathway where she trained from 2014 to 2019. During this period Layden also competed as a member of Soccer Nova Scotia's provincial team.

Layden's work ethic and ability have led her to four consecutive Atlantic Championships with Team Nova Scotia as well as an invite to the Whitecaps High Potential Player camp in 2018. This past fall, she was called up to the Women's AAA United Dartmouth FC team that finished 5th at Club Nationals.  Layden is looking to more success at Acadia, "I chose Acadia because of its excellent academics and highly successful women's soccer program. I really enjoyed the Acadia coaching style at the High-Performance Camp I attended last summer, and I was very impressed with Acadia's academic features I learned about and experienced at the November Open House."

The Ecole du Carrefour student comes to Acadia as one of the top students in her school and will be entering Acadia's highly recognized Biology program. Coach Batra is pleased both with her academics and athletic ability, "I'm impressed with Curran's approach and diligent research into schools and program choice. She has that same calm approach on the field where she combines a high level of composure on the ball and plays with a fierce compete level and purpose."

Soccer Nova Scotia Strategic Development Consultant, Ninoslav Kovacevic concurs, "Curran is the definition of consistency. As one of the older players in the Regional Excel Centre, Curran's day-to-day behaviours, both on and off the field, set the behavioural standard for the younger players in the program. I am excited to see her continue to grow and positively affect those around her."
