WOLFVILLE – The Axewomen soccer program is excited to announce Emma Matheson will join Acadia for the 2024 season.

Hailing from Charlottetown, the 5’7 central midfielder brings a wealth of provincial team experience to the table.

“Emma’s training habits and passion for the game are second to none and she’s been a notable player in the PEI FC program and Whitecaps systems for several years,” said Acadia head coach Amit Batra. “She’s calm on the ball, a tireless worker and continues to improve. Emma also fits the type of locker room and academic student that Acadia is known for and I’m looking forward to seeing Emma on the pitch.”

Over the last three seasons she has had plenty of success, winning the U18 premier championship with PEI FC in 2021, the same season she was named a PEI Soccer all-star. She followed that by playing for Team PEI in 2022 at the Canada Games in Niagara, finishing sixth in the team standings.

Most recently with the PEI FC U17 program she was the team captain, helping her squad to a fifth-place finish at the club national championship. Following that, she was named Prince Edward Island Soccer Association’s female youth player of the year in November.

Over those years, she has also been part of the regional excel program and Whitecaps program.

“I chose Acadia as a felt their kinesiology program was the best fir for me academically,” said Matheson. “I’m looking forward to being a part of the soccer program because of the competitive environment, history of success and welcoming team culture.”

Other notable awards won by Matheson include being named a 2019 PEI Soccer U13 Premier League all-star, 2021 junior high athlete of distinction and 2022 high school rookie of the year.

Matheson will be working towards a kinesiology degree while attending Acadia.
