PEI's Pomeroy joins Axewomen soccer program

The Axewomen soccer program continues to add provincial team experience to their roster with the commitment of Ava Pomeroy.

The 5’1 winger from Summerside, P.E.I. played three years with her high school Three Oaks Senior High. Over that time, she has been part of two championship teams, was team captain in Grade 12 and was the provincial tournament MVP in Grades 10 and 12.

“Ava is exactly the type of player and personality we’re looking for at Acadia,” said Axewomen head coach Amit Batra. “She’s a speedy winger with versatility to play full-back, but more importantly she brings exceptional training habits and discipline in everything she does. She’s an absolute top student and person and these are the types of players that have formed the backbone of our success over the years. I look forward to seeing Ava excel in our environment.”

On top of her high school success, she has been with the provincial program for four seasons, first playing with the U15 program. From 2021-23 she was a member of the U17 program that attended back-to-back national championships, which included a fifth-place finish – the best for the team. Pomeroy was also team captain in her first year with the U17 squad.

“For me, committing to Acadia means I have the opportunity to continue to challenge myself and grow as a player,” she said. “I am excited to be part of such a competitive team and am looking forward to what this new chapter will bring.”

Pomeroy will be working towards a kinesiology degree while attending Acadia.
