(FREDERICTON, NB) The Acadia Axewomen completed a weekend sweep of the UNB Varsity Reds, scoring a 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon.

Acadia won with scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19.

Lauryn Renzella(Stouffville, ON) led the Axewomen with 12 kills and 10 digs. She was named the Subway Player of the Match.

"It feels really good," said Renzella, of the team's 2-0 weekend"It feels like all the hard work we put in, in the gym, has really paid off this week."

Sarah Ross(Toronto, ON) added a dozen kills.

Adora Rooyakkers(Port Hawkesbury, NS) led the Varsity Reds. She had 10 kills and 11 digs.

Kristen Burns(Mississauga, ON) added 14 digs.

"I'm extremely disappointed," said Varsity Reds head coach Jilliane Portelli"We weren't able to find any sort of confidence or aggression. We let the game dictate our confidence and we let their points take away our level of play."

Acadia used a 4-0 run in the first set to build a 17-10 lead, on route to their 25-20 win.

The Varsity Reds showed signs of life after the technical time-out in the second set, rallying from down 13-16 to take a 17-16 lead. But the Axewomen were unfazed, rallying themselves to score the 25-18 victory.

In the third set, Acadia built leads of 5-2 and 13-8 while the V-Reds were never able to establish their offence. The Axewomen took the set 25-19.

"It definitely boosts confidence," said Renzella. "But we're going to hit the gym hard and hit practice hard and do everything we can to get ready for next weekend."

With the win, Acadia is now 2-2.

The Varsity Reds are 0-3.

Acadia will visit Dalhousie, next Sunday.

The Varsity Reds go on the road next weekend. They visit Dal on Saturday and Saint Mary's on Sunday.
