WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University's Volleyball head coach Michelle Wood is pleased to announce the commitment of Aurora, Ont. native Andie Therkildsen to the Axewomen squad this coming fall.

As a member of the St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic High School girls volleyball team, Therkildsen and her fellow Mustangs captured the 2017 York Region Secondary School Athletics Championship banner and finished fourth at the OFSAA Championship.

Therkildsen began her club career with Aurora Storm under the coaching direction of her mom Linda Therkildsen. Andie comes from a family with a rich history in volleyball as both Linda Therkildsen and her father Kevin Therkildsen are volleyball alumni of Fanshawe College in Ontario and both continue to coach within the Aurora Storm Club.

With Aurora Storm, Andie won three Ontario Provincial Championships as well as both a silver medal and a National Championship.

In 2016 Andie made the transition to Pakmen Volleyball Club where she continued her consecutive success, winning her fourth straight Provincial Championship and a bronze medal at Nationals.

As a 5' 10" setter, Therkildsen was named to the 16U East Nationals All-Star team with the Aurora Storm Volleyball Club.

"Andie has grown up in the volleyball community, especially with both parents as former coaches with Aurora Storm. Andie's passion for the sport has directly translated into her being an exceptional student of game. She has had a tremendous amount of success at the club level and we will look forward to her bringing this experience to our Axewomen program," noted Wood.

Therkildsen will be taking a Bachelor of Business Administration degree while attending Acadia.

"I'm most looking forward to being a varsity athlete. When I was playing 12U, my parents brought me to my first university match and ever since then it has been my dream to play volleyball post-secondary", said Therkildsen.

This past season, the Axewomen finished the regular season with a 14-6 record and were AUS Finalist.
