AUS Women's Volleyball Tournament at Acadia

Saint Mary's Huskies – 3 vs Memorial Sea-Hawks – 0  (25-17, 25-17, 25-17) BOX SCORE>

The Saint Mary's Huskies swept Memorial 3-0 in the opening match of the annual AUS women's volleyball tournament hosted this year by Acadia University.

Huskie outside hitter Lindsay Donovan posted 10 kills with a hitting efficiency of 0.400 and added seven digs in the win. Teammate Bethany Smith had a match high 11 kills with an astounding 0.556 hitting efficiency.

The Huskies led for the entire opening set and at one point had a 16-8 lead after an 8-1 run. Saint Mary's wrapped up the first game 25-17.

Tied at five in the second game, Saint Mary's pushed ahead to a 25-17 second set win.

Tied at 10-10, Sam Gill and Bethany Smith laid the lumber with two kills each to pull Saint Mary's out to a comfortable 16-10 lead and eventual third set 25-17 win and the match in three straight games.

Donovan was named the Huskies' Subway Player of the Game.  Katie Wagar was announced as the Sea-Hawks Player of the Game. Belle de Vries landed a Sea-Hawk high of six kills, while teammates Kaitlyn Kuchinka and Haley Oke each had five kills.

Memorial takes on Moncton tomorrow at 11:00 am at Horton High School, while the Huskies play at 1:00 pm against the host Acadia Axewomen.

Dalhousie Tigers – 3 vs Moncton Aigles Bleues – 0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-22) BOX SCORE>

The U SPORTS No. 5 ranked Dalhousie Tigers remain undefeated and improve to 7-0 win a convincing 3-0 win over Moncton.

Julie Moore led the Tigers with eight kills and a hitting percentage of 0.500 and was awarded the Subway Player of the Game award for her performance that also included nine digs.

Tied at three early in the opening set, the Tigers pushed away with kills by Moore and teammate Mieke DuMont throughout the first set, giving Dalhousie a 20-12 lead and an eventual 25-17 win.

Posting an early six point run, the Tigers doubled the Aigles Bleues output at 18-9 and wrapped up the set at 25-14 on scoring by committee and Moncton errors.

An interesting third and final set was marred by Tiger errors and Aigles Bleues aggressive play at the net. Moncton kept the set close, tied with Dalhousie at 22 in the closing minutes of the set. A service ace by Moncton's Ivana Urquhart plus an attack error followed by kill by Pascale Doiron, tied the game at 22.

A Moncton service error and kills by Julie Moore and Lauren Koskowich ended the third and final set at 25-22.

Moncton's Joanie Arsenaul led the Aigles Bleues with six kills and Doiron led Moncton with 17 digs.

Moncton will take on Memorial tomorrow morning at 11:00 am at Horton High School, while the Tigers will take on UNB at the same time at Acadia.

Acadia Axewomen – 3 vs UNB Reds – 1 (23-25, 25-12, 25-14, 25-15) BOX SCORE>

The host Acadia Axewomen woke up after the opening game and delivered three straight set wins to take a 3-1 match win over the UNB Reds.

Adora Rooyakkers led the Reds with six kills and was named UNB's Player of the Game.

Rooyakkers' late first set kill tied the game at 18 and another timely kill by Rooyakkers gave the Reds a  20-19 lead that would not fall as UNB grabbed a first set 25-23 win.

The Axewomen pulled out to a commanding 9-2 early second set advantage and pushed the lead to 22-9 before handing UNB a 25-12 loss.

Subway Player of the Game Regan Herrington was worthy of the title, offering an amazing 41 assists that led to 25-14 and 25-15 wins in the third and four sets.

Lucy Glen-Carter added to Herrington's performance with one of her own that included a hitting percentage of 0.289 on 18 kills. Lauryn Renzella added 11 kills and 15 digs. Micaela Sabean recorded 18 digs.

The Axewomen take on Saint Mary's at 1:00 pm on Saturday and at 7:00 pm, hosting Moncton. UNB will play the early game at 11:00 am and then return to court at 7:00 pm against Saint Mary's at Horton High School.
