Axewomen sweep Sea-Hawks, hold first place at holiday break

WOLFVILLE – The Axewomen volleyball team swept the Memorial Sea-Hawks on Saturday afternoon, improving their record to 7-2 as they head into the holiday break in first place in the AUS.

After a tight match on Friday night, Acadia had two dominant sets to open on Saturday, winning 25-18 and 25-9. In the third, Memorial led 17-13 before a five-point run for Acadia made it 18-17. The Axewomen held on to take it 25-23.

Jenna Lake (Conception Bay South, NL) led the Acadia offence in the match, finishing with 13 points – scored from 11 kills and two aces.

Charlottte Dean (Mississauga, ON) ran the offence, with 20 assists in the match. She also had three kills and defensively had 13 digs for Acadia.

Rebecca Dorsey (Toronto, ON) led the Axewomen in digs with 19 in the match.

Memorial's offence was tamed in the second match of the weekend, with Maria Moores (Conception Bay South, NL)  and Courtney Hodder (Main Point, NL) each finishing the match with five kills to lead the Sea-Hawks. Hodder also led Memorial with 11 digs.

Acadia and Memorial are now off until January, with the Axewomen returning to action on Saturday, Jan. 6 at home against the Dalhousie Tigers. Memorial is back on the court ton Friday, Jan. 5 when the travel to Moncton for a pair of matches.
