Axewomen finish in top three final standings at Moncton

MONCTON, N.B. - The Acadia Axewomen finished their second race of the season in third place among the top teams of the AUS in attendance.

CIS No. 7 ranked Dalhousie captured the honours as top team with 20 points while StFX posted 40 points, while the third place Axewomen had 92 points. Fourth place UNB trailed with 129 points.

The top women's finisher was Colleen Wilson of the Dalhousie Tigers with a race time of 22:43.70, 47 seconds before second place finisher at teammate Laura Myatt. Third place went to another Tiger Jenna MacDonald.

Acadia's top runner was Alicia Henry with a time of 24:49.10. Teammates Chrissy Smith, Margaux McLean, Madalyn Higgins Mackenzie Seagram and Henry were the top five finishers for Acadia.

Head coach Ralph Williams has been happy with the team's performance so far this season.

"My expectations were to finish in the medals because the first meet not all AUS universities attended. We did what we planned to do, but decisively with a 37 point lead over the fourth place team", noted Williams. "The team gave all they had on the day and I am very proud of them".

The Axewomen will prepare for their third meet of the season on October 8, hosted by Saint Mary's and Dalhousie at Point Pleasant Park and then a week later on October 15 at UNB they will participate in the RSEQ-AUS Interlock meet.

The AUS season ends on October 29 at StFX in the AUS Championship.
