WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University's Department of Athletics and the men's basketball head coach Kevin Duffie are pleased to announce the commitment of New Brunswick native Daemen Hemphill.

Hemphill is a 6' 5" guard who currently plays at Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, N.B. Originally from the Grand Falls, N.B. area, Hemphill moved to Fredericton and began his high school basketball career at Leo Hayes.

As a member of the Basketball New Brunswick at 15u and 17u programs, Daemen won a national bronze medal at the 15u Boy's National Championship that was held in Halifax in 2015.

"We are very excited to have Daemen join our program. He has a high level of basketball skill and the ability to stretch the field with his shooting range. He also has great length that helps him on the defensive end," pointed out Duffie.

"I enjoyed the facility and campus and when I walked into the gym it felt natural when I was playing. It reminded me a lot of John Caldwell School, where I played for so many years, and Duffie reminds me a lot of the coaches who helped me be the ballplayer I am today," said Hemphill.

Hemphill noted the Acadia campus and facility reminded him of where he grew up in northern New Brunswick, "I really enjoyed the facility and the campus, it felt natural and like I was at home when I was on a visit. It reminds me a lot of where I played growing up for so many years," added Hemphill.

There is certainly a familiarity with Coach Duffie and Hemphill as they both grew up and went to school at John Caldwell in Grand Falls, N.B.

Hemphill noted this as well. "Coach Duffie reminds me a lot of my former high school coaches, Paul McCarthy and Aaron McLaughlin who taught me a lot as I grew up playing at John Caldwell for so many years." 

Hemphill will pursue a degree in Kinesiology at Acadia beginning in the fall of 2018.
