New Brunswick's MacDonald to join Acadia University basketball Axemen in fall of 2020

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - Axemen Basketball head coach Kevin Duffie and Acadia University are pleased to announce the commitment of Rothesay, N.B. native Thomas MacDonald to join the team for the 2020-2021 season.

An accomplished high school and provincial player, Thomas stands at 6'9 and most recently captured a Bronze Medal at the 17u Boys National Championship that was held this past summer in Fredericton. A key contributor and starter during this competition, Thomas was a Top 10 player in four statistical categories during the tournament.

He also won a High School AA boys provincial championship with Rothesay High School in 2018.

Thomas has represented his province on four different occasions since 2016 and competed in two national championships.

Rothesay High School Head Coach Peter Hickey was excited to hear about Thomas' choice to attend Acadia, "I was thrilled to hear of Thomas' commitment to Acadia. He has had a huge impact on our program at Rothesay High School and the main reason we've had success over the last three years. Thomas is a hard-working student-athlete who will no doubt find success at the next level."

Acadia Head Coach Kevin Duffie added, "We are excited about Thomas joining our program. A true student-athlete who excels both in the classroom and on the court. He is proven on the national stage, competing and winning a bronze medal this past summer with Basketball New Brunswick and we expect him to make a quick transition to the next level."

"I chose Acadia because I felt it fit me very well from a basketball point of view as well as an academic one. I really like the idea of a smaller school which makes it more personable. I'm looking forward to excelling in academics when I'm not on the court. When I'm on the court I am going to battle hard for the team and try to bring as much success as possible in whatever way I can," noted MacDonald.
