Grammar's Munro commits to Basketball Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Halifax Grammar School's Kyle Munro will join the Acadia men's basketball team this coming fall. Head coach Michael Leslie announced today that Munro will suit up for the Axemen this season and join his older brother Ryan on the 2022-23 roster.

A two-time team Most Valuable Player, Munro was named School Sport Nova Scotia Boys Division 1 basketball Co-MVP this past season. For the last two seasons, Munro was honoured as a League All-Star.

"Kyle will be an excellent addition for Acadia Men's basketball.  His understanding of the game is at the next level.  When you combine this with a diverse and high-level skillset, Kyle will transition successfully to our basketball program.  Coach McGarrigle at Grammar has provided him with a very solid high school experience in preparation for a U SPORTS career," said Leslie.

Adding, "As well, he is a dedicated and focussed student-athlete who attended Halifax Grammar and very successfully participated in a rigorous course of study.  We are very excited that Kyle has chosen Acadia Men's basketball as his next step."

A 6'2" guard from Timberlea, N.S., Munro's time with Halifax Grammar has produced two consecutive hard-earned Halifax Regional Championships. As a U15 Team Nova Scotia member, Munro's squad placed fourth at Nationals

"Kyle has completed a very successful high school career at Halifax Grammar School, and he is the school's first-ever Metro League MVP. He has a complete game at both ends of the floor, he can shoot the three, finish at the rim, and is a next-level passer. He has a high basketball IQ and should be able to make the transition to the university game smoothly," noted Munro's high school coach Tim McGarrigle.

Munro is enrolled this coming academic year in a Bachelor of Business Administration degree program.

"Acadia seemed like the right fit for me in every aspect. The team, the environment, and the people all seem like things I want to be a part of. In talking to Coach Leslie, the vision he has for the team and program, showed me exactly why Acadia was the perfect fit for me," said Munro.

The Axemen will kick off the AUS regular season on the road at StFX on Wednesday, October 26, and return to Wolfville for their home opener on Saturday, October 29 vs StFX – 8:00 p.m. start.
