Grammar School's Davignon commits to Acadia basketball

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia University men's basketball head coach Michael Leslie announced today that Halifax, Nova Scotia native Gabe Davignon will be joining the Axemen this coming fall.

"We are very fortunate to have Gabe join our program.  He is an outstanding student graduate of Halifax Grammar and has been developing into a very good player over the course of his last year of high school and is currently with the U18 Canada Games men's team.  Gabe shoots the ball well from long range and is a gritty tough defender and finisher.  He is an extremely focussed and committed student-athlete who has a very bright future ahead of him both academically and in his basketball career," noted Leslie.

The 6'2 guard from Halifax Grammar School Gryphons was a Halifax Metro League All-Star for the past seasons. With the Gryphons, Davignon was a Regional Champion in his rookie season of 2019-20 and in his senior year of 2021-22. In both seasons, the Gryphons were provincial finalists.

"Gabe is an excellent shooter and will be a consistent deep threat at the university level. His dedication to work on his game was unmatched by any player that I've coached at Halifax Grammar School," noted Grammar School head coach Tim McGarrigle.

Adding, "During one game this year he was seven for seven from three-point range in the first half, he would have likely broken the school record for threes in a game if had played the second half. Gabe is also an excellent student and teammate and I know that he will continue his success at the university level."

Davignon intends to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree while attending Acadia University.

"Acadia will allow me to play at a high level with guys who want to work towards competing for a championship," said Davignon when asked why he chose Acadia.

The Axemen open the AUS regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at STFX X-Men and then return to Wolfville for their home opener on Saturday, Oct. 29 vs. the X-Men again.
