North Vancouver's O'Flynn commits to Soccer Axemen

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Axewomen soccer head coach Amit Batra and Acadia University are pleased to announce the commitment of North Vancouver, B.C. native Michael O'Flynn to join the team in the fall of 2020.

An accomplished youth Goalkeeper, O'Flynn is a long-time member of the Mountain United Football Club as well as the B.C. Provincial High-Performance Program.  With Mountain United, O'Flynn captured U13, U15 and U17 B.C.SPL Provincial Championships as well as being a U14 and U16 B.C.SPL Provincial Finalist. The U15 and U17 squads represented B.C. at the Canada Soccer Nationals in Calgary in 2017 where they finished fifth and most recently in this past fall in Prince Edward Island, narrowly missing out on the bronze and placing fourth.

Mountain United Club Technical Director Lee Tregonning had steady praise for O'Flynn, "Over the past 10 years of coaching Michael, I have watched him grow into not just a great athlete but an absolute gentleman. Michael will bring nothing but top-quality attributes to the Axemen, I wish him nothing but the best and can't thank him enough for being a top role model at Mountain United FC."

Acadia Head Coach Amit Batra had this to add, "I had the opportunity to see Michael play on a few occasions this year and I was impressed with his ability on the field, athleticism and foot skills. Beyond that his coaches have all been very positive about his character and work ethic. Mountain United Goalkeeper Coach Angus Brown had this to say, "Michael is a competitive, composed goalkeeper and athlete who has great agility and strength around the box. His determination to 'keep the ball out of net' is very strong and he demonstrates that in training and in games. He has been the "game winner" many times with his goalkeeping, but also as a spare striker when needed.

O'Flynn's Saint Thomas Aquinas High Fighting Saints were repeat 2018 and 2019 B.C. Catholics champions and the 2019 B.C. High Schools' AA Provincial Sr Boys Silver Medallists.

This past 2019 season, O'Flynn was named the team's Senior Captain and awarded the Dominic Mobilio MVP award at the B.C. Catholics High School tournament. At the B.C. High School provincial championship, he was recognized with the Clive Hughes Outstanding Goalie award.

"Acadia is a perfect fit for me as it is an excellent small undergraduate school and has an extremely good soccer program. I am excited for the experience of playing, attending, and becoming a part of the Acadia family," noted O'Flynn when asked why he chose Acadia. O'Flynn will be working towards a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree at Acadia.
