Axewomen in third place; Axemen in second place in Standings after Day 2 at Kemp-Fry

HALIFAX, N.S. - After Day 2 in the pool at the Kemp-Fry Invitational Swim Meet hosted by Dalhousie, Acadia posted 667 points and trail the Dalhousie Tigers who have racked up 1152 points after two days of competition. The day 2 finals session of the Kemp Fry Invitational included finals in the men's and women's 50 metre freestyle, 400 metre Individual Medley, 100 metre butterfly, 200 metre backstroke, 100 metre breaststroke, 200 metre freestyle, and 50 metre backstroke. The men's and women's 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay closed off the night.

Dalhousie's Elaine Gentleman picked up a win in the opening event of the day 2 finals session, the women's 50 metre freestyle, in a time of 26.92. Acadia's Elisabeth Morrison of Fredericton, NB, was fifth in 27.52, and Lia Lancaster of Victoria, BC, was 11th in 28.13. Dean Sangster of Truro and Shane Kenny of Bathurst, NB, finished 1-2 for Acadia in the men's 50 metre freestyle in 22.78 and 23.03 respectively. Acadia's Daeton Pitre of Bathurst, NB, was fifth in 24.00, while Bo Stokesbury-Price of West Brooklyn, NS, placed sixth for Acadia in 24.23. Acadia's Reilly Baker of Toronto and Aaron Day of New Glasgow, NS, were 10th and 11th in 24.21 and 24.45 respectively. 

Emilie Schofield of Dalhousie was the women's 400 metre Individual Medley winner in 5:00.65. Acadia's Maddie Murray of Burlington, ON, was fifth in 5:20.16. On the men's side, Acadia's Elyott Chang of Calgary and Owen Landry of Dartmouth were sixth and eighth in 4:43.39 and 5:05.02 respectively. 

Kassidy Hamilton of Fredericton captured the win for Acadia in the women's 100 metre butterfly in 1:04.34, while Acadia's Aideen Nelson of Corner Brook, Newfoundland, placed third in 1:05.29. Acadia's Cali Bruce of Coal Harbour, NS, was eighth in 1:08.89, and Lia Lancaster was 13th in 1:11.27. Shane Kenny finished first on the men's side in the 100 metre butterfly in a time of 54.83, while Acadia's Marcus Vaillancourt of Quispamsis, NB, picked up fourth place in 57.50, and Lucas Perkins finished 14th in 1:03.74.

Grace Earle of Halifax brought home a second-place finish for Acadia in the women's 200 metre backstroke in a U-Sports qualifying time of 2:15.67, trailing Kate Williams of Memorial in 2:15.41. "I am so excited to go to U-Sports," Earle said following her race. "I can't wait to go with this amazing team."

Jessica Pelletier of Fredericton was 11th in the women's 200 backstroke in 2:26.71, while Gina Vaillancourt of Quispamsis, NB, was 16th in 2:33.23. Fresh off his Acadia record from day 1 in the 200 metre freestyle relay lead-off, Sangster was the men's 200 metre backstroke winner in 2:01.20. Sangster's time of 1:51.73 in the 200 freestyle eclipsed the previous record held by Reilly Baker at 1:51.88. Acadia's Aaron Day was sixth in 2:11.05, Owen Landry was 14th in 2:16.97, and Cameron Ingo was 16th in 2:22.80.

Abbey Corish of Dalhousie won the women's 100 metre breaststroke in 1:12.00. Kali Lancaster of Victoria, BC, was fourth in 1:14.60, while Elisabeth Morrison was sixth in 1:15.65, Sarah MacDougall of Bedford was ninth in 1:17.16, and Cali Bruce of Coal Harbour was 14th in 1:20.96.

Gordon Shortt of Simcoe, ON, picked up second place in the men's 100 metre breaststroke in 1:03.50 behind the Tigers' Adam Bouma who won in 1:01.87. Acadia's Aubrey Landry of Lawrencetown was fifth in 1:05.76, Elyott Chang was ninth in 1:06.30, Sam Taylor of Delaware was 14th in 1:19.27, and Robert Kennedy was 15th in 1:22.42. 

"It has been awesome to watch everyone race so far, and I'm really looking forward to more team-travel meets," said Acadia first-year Kali Lancaster, following her 100 breaststroke final.

Reagan Crowell of Dalhousie won the women's 200 metre freestyle in 2:03.04, while Acadia's Annie Ingo of Sydenham, ON, was 16th in 2:20.14. On the men's side, Noah Mascoll-Gomes captured the win in 1:49.35, while Bo Stokesbury-Price took home third in 1:53.78. Marcus Vaillancourt was fifth in 1:57.41, Daeton Pitre was 11th in 1:58.60, and Cameron Ingo was 16th in 2:04.77.

Jessica Pelletier brought home a win for Acadia and a U-Sports qualifying time in the women's 50 metre backstroke in 29.32. Grace Earle was third in 30.37, while Ally Bennett of Georgetown, ON, was 15th in 32.75.

The Tigers' Christian Payne won the men's 50 metre backstroke in a time of 24.47, while Acadia's Aaron Day of New Glasgow, NS was third in 26.83, Daeton Pitre was fourth in 27.49, and Sam Taylor was 14th in 31.00.

The Tigers' team of Emilie Schofield, Martine Nyhof, Elaine Gentleman, and Reagan Crowell took home the win in the women's 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay in a time of 3:51.53, with the Axewomen's team of Elisabeth Morrison, Grace Earle, Kassidy Hamilton, and Lia Lancaster placing second in a time of 4:02.18, and Memorial University in third in 4:03.40.

The Axemen's team of Dean Sangster, Shane Kenny, Bo Stokesbury-Price, and Gordon Shortt picked up a win in the final event of the evening, the men's 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay, in a time of 3:24.99, just out-touching the Tigers who placed second in 3:25.01, with Memorial touching third in 3:33.38.
