HALIFAX, N.S. - Acadia's Haley McDonald of the Axewomen basketball team was named this week's AUS Athlete of the Week after posting a 31 points per game average in the AUS women's Final 6 championships this past weekend.

Haley McDonald of the Acadia Axewomen basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending March 3, 2019.
A third-year kinesiology student from Port Williams, N.S., McDonald led the Axewomen to their second consecutive AUS women's basketball championship title this past weekend in Halifax
She was named Championship MVP after averaging 31.0 points per game over the course of three playoffs games.
In Acadia's 74-54 win over the Dalhousie Tigers Friday, McDonald scored 13 points and added three assists, three steals and two rebounds.
Saturday, the Axewomen defeated the second-seeded UPEI Panthers to advance to Sunday's championship final. McDonald had a historic performance, scoring 51 points in the win to break a 42-year-old AUS conference record. She was named Subway Player of the Game.
In Sunday's championship win over the Memorial Sea-Hawks, McDonald had a double-double with 29 points and 10 assists to go along with seven rebounds and two steals
In addition to championship MVP honours, she was also named a tournament all-star. Prior to the playoffs, McDonald was named an AUS first team all-star for her regular season performance.

Regan Spears of the StFX X-Men hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 3, 2019.
A third-year forward from Port Hood, N.S., Spears played a strong playoff series for the X-Men against Saint Mary's, helping them come back from a 2-0 deficit to win the semifinal series 3-2.
Spears scored a goal in wins in Game 3 (3-1), Game 4 (6-3) and in the series deciding Game 5 (3-1).
He was named Subway Player of the Game in Friday's Game 5 in Halifax as he scored the game--winning goal, helping to secure StFX a berth in both the AUS finals and U SPORTS national championship.
Spears currently leads all AUS players in playoff scoring with seven points (four goals, three assists).
