WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Acadia Axewomen swept a two-game home weekend series versus the UNB with a 67-51 win over the Reds.

The Axewomen, who won Friday's matchup, came out strong on Saturday night and were able to hold the Reds to 12 points (5-20 FG) while adding 19 (8-19 FG) of their own in the opening quarter.

Rachel Clouatre-Trudeau (St. Jean sur Richelieu, Que.) and Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, N.S.) led the way for the Axewomen, with scoring 10+ points in the first half and giving their team a solid lead.

At halftime, the Reds trailed by 39-23 and UNB guard Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, Ont.) had a team-high 9 points at the half on 4-13 shooting from the field.

The Reds were unsuccessful from three in the opening half again on Saturday, making only 1 of their 11 attempts in the first half.

Acadia increased their lead even more in the third quarter, bringing the score to 57-36.

The Reds managed to outscore the Axewomen 15-10 in the final frame, but it would not be enough to take the win. The final score favoured Acadia 67-51.

UNB only hit one three-pointer 16 attempts, while the Axewomen were not much better, hitting only two threes on 10 attempts.

Eva Tumwine (Fredericton, N.B.) was 1 rebound shy of a double-double for the Reds and was named as her team's player of the game with 12 points and nine boards.

Clouatre-Trudeau led all players with 16 points, adding four rebounds and four assists in Acadia's victory. She made seven of her 15 field goal attempts as well as going one for three from the distant arc. Clouatre-Trudeau was named the Subway Player of the Game.

After the game, Clouatre-Trudeau was asked about her performance during Acadia's victory.

"I think it was really important to prove to ourselves to play tough and play great defense and to stop them on defense. I don't think it was about me playing good, it was about what the team needed and that's what I did. Everybody did their job tonight and last night and I think we are just very happy with everyone right now."

Acadia out-rebounded the Reds 42-34 and Sarsha Cadle (Sydney, AUS) and Deidre Harris (Decatur, GA) dominated the boards with 12 rebounds each. Haley McDonald (Port Williams, N.S.) and Jayda Veinot (Port Williams, N.S.) each added 11 points.

Acadia remains in first place tied with UPEI who have a game in hand. The Axewomen hit the road on Friday and face off against St. FX in a 4-point game in Antigonish, while the Reds head back home to play the UPEI Panthers on February 1st.
