Timmins, Ont. native Amélie Bouchard commits to Acadia

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Acadia Axewomen basketball head coach Len Harvey is pleased to announce the commitment of Amélie Bouchard.

A 5'7" point guard from Timmins, Ont., Bouchard has spent her last two seasons at Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School in Toronto as a member of their OSBA Prep program and was nominated to the Biosteel All-Canadian game.

Bouchard is excited about her choice of Acadia University to fulfill her athletic and academic endeavours.

"I chose Acadia since I felt it was a great school for me to grow as a student-athlete. They have a great Kinesiology program, and their basketball program is very good. Even though I was not able to visit the university due to the recruiting restrictions, Wolfville definitely seems to be a very welcoming town," said Bouchard.

Active in provincial basketball, Bouchard was a member of Team Ontario U17 where most recently the team finished 5th at the 2019 National Championship in Victoria, B.C.

Prior to her time at Father John Redmond Secondary, Bouchard played with the École Secondaire Catholique Thériault Flammes in Timmins where she received many tournament MVP awards, and played her club basketball with the Timmins Selects.

"Amélie is a skilled guard with a great motor. She is a very solid shooter and scorer, but what impressed me early on was her speed with the ball," said Harvey. "Her skillset is really going to fit with our style of play, and she's a gym rat so I'm excited to see what she is able to do while she's here at Acadia. Amélie is an excellent student who is beloved by her coaches and teammates, so I'm really looking forward to her joining our team and bringing those qualities and her great attitude to Wolfville."
