Nova Scotian Delorey commits to Acadia Axewomen basketball team

WOLFVILLE, N.S. – Axewomen head coach Len Harvey will add a forward to his recruiting class of 2021.

From Elmsdale, N.S., Sarah Delorey will enhance the lineup of the 2021-22 season as a 6'1" forward. Named the Hants East Rural High School Tigers' most valuable player in 2019, Delorey was also the team's rookie of the year in 2018.

A knee injury in 2020, sidelined Delorey, but she was still named the Tigers' Coach's Award winner.

With the Tigers, Delorey has captured three Northumberland Division 2 championships and two Division 2 provincial titles including 2019 and 2020.

A long-time Basketball Nova Scotia provincial program player, Delorey was a member of the U13, U15 and U17 Team Nova Scotia from 2015 to 2020.

'We're really excited to add Sarah to our team for sure,' said Harvey. 'Sarah has great hands and a real nose for the ball, but will really fit in with a lot of the actions we like to run with our forwards. I think Sarah has potential to be a very special player here in the AUS, I'm really looking forward to watching her develop. On top of that, she's just a great kid with an awesome personality who is going to be a really solid fit here with the team.'

A student with Honours of Distinction in three consecutive academic years, Delorey's decision to attended Acadia in the fall of 2021 was not only based the achievements of the Axewomen basketball program over the last five seasons, but also the strong academic programs offered at Acadia.

"I chose Acadia not only because of the exceptional basketball program but also the amazing academic side of it as well. The basketball team is one of the best and I've only heard great things about the Kinesiology program. I also love the town of Wolfville and how it is such a friendly tight knit community and that's exactly what I want in a university town. The team and coaches have been so welcoming. I can't wait to get started. I really think Acadia was the best choice for me, and I couldn't be happier with my decision," said Delorey.
