HALIFAX, N.S. - The Acadia women's basketball team beat Dalhousie 92-80 on December 1, at the Dalplex. 

The game got off to a slow start as both teams struggled to hit shots, but as the first quarter continued, the offences came alive. Dalhousie did a good job picking apart the Acadia press leading to easy points at the free throw line, while Haley McDonald (Port Williams, NS) started to create for herself and her teammates to keep the game close at the end of the quarter. 

The second quarter saw the Axewomen begin to heat up from downtown, but Dalhousie's Mercy Olugu (Halifax, NS) and Anna Parson (Calgary, AB) kept the Tigers in the game with their aggressive rebounding and tenacity getting to the hoop. Their strong play and a couple big threes from Kelsey Crocker (St.John's, NL) had the Tigers leading 42-40 at the half. 

Olugu's big night continued to start the second half, but Acadia responded by drilling consecutive threes to jump out in front. The Axewomen went on a 23-6 run to close the third quarter and took a 72-57 lead into the fourth quarter. 

Acadia's three-point barrage continued in the fourth as Dalhousie struggled to close out on their shooters. Sandy Saunders (Woodstock, NB) caught fire and knocked down some open looks after the Axewomen's ball movement freed her up for some open looks. The Tigers fought hard but couldn't overcome Acadia's scorching second half. The Axewomen walked away with a 92-80 win. 

Megan Hebert was named Subway player of the game for Acadia after going four for four from deep to help the Axewomen to the win.  

Both teams will now take the winter break to regroup and gear up for a playoff run in the new year. Acadia will be back in action on Friday, January 6, when they face off against the number two seed, UPEI. Dalhousie will host Memorial in back-to-back games on January 7 and 8 to kick off the second half of the season.
