Axewomen post 3-0 win over SMU before Thanksgiving break

WOLFVILLE, N.S. - The Axewomen returned to the field for their only game of the weekend to face the Huskies (0-9-0) at Saint Mary's University before the Thanksgiving break.

Meghan Earle posted Acadia's first goal 13 minutes into the first half. After the goal, the Axewomen seemed to lay back until a late goal in the half, the first of two goals by second year forward Kinsella Noseworthy Smith.

Heading into the half up 2-0, the Axewomen knew that the Huskies would come out fighting to get back in the game. Acadia controlled the rythim of the game and 72 minutes in to the game, Maddie Kelly knocked a long ball opposite field to the feet of Kinsella Noseworthy-Smith who easily placed past the Huskies keeper giving Acadia a 3-0 win.

Taylor Grant recorded her first shut out of the year and Earle is now second in the conference scoring race with five goals, three behind Cape Breton's Karoline Blain (8).

Head Coach Amit Batra was positive about the win. "It was a good result - the league is so tight for a playoff spot and so it was important to keep plowing ahead. All year we've been able to call on players at different times and it really has been a total team effort. That's what we've been getting out of training and it shows in our games. We're able to take out one player or deal with injury and the next player steps in without missing a beat".

The Axewomen head into the Thanksgiving break in 4th place (5-2-2), two points behind the 3-way tie for first place. The Axewomen return to Raymond field on October 18th and 20th to face Moncton and St.Fx on homecoming weekend.
