WOLFVILLE, NS – Acadia University's Department of Athletics and Axewomen soccer head coach Amit Batra are pleased to announce the commitment of United Dartmouth Football Club's (formerly Dartmouth Football Club) Meghan Johnston to the Axewomen Soccer program.

Batra is excited about Johnston's commitment, "Meg is a very composed player, which is vital to building an attack from the back.  At the same time she has an intense competitive spirit and doesn't want to lose any individual battles which is another important element any defender needs. Meg's the whole package, she is great academically, works with kids in the community and will be a great addition on the field and will only continue to get better."

Currently attending Dartmouth High School, the 5'5" full-back has is a two-time High School All-Star and former 2015 rookie of the year while representing the Dartmouth High School Spartans.  Johnston has also captained the DFC squad since 2014 while representing Nova Scotia at the Atlantic Championships – winning Gold in 2015 and 2016.

A sought-after soccer player and a high-honours student, Johnston took a holistic approach to her choice of school, "Acadia offers a strong soccer program, a great biology program, and a great university experience in Wolfville. I'm really looking forward to being a part of the team next season."

"Meghan is a quick, smart decision maker, which matched with her pace and strength makes her a difficult player to beat in one-on-one situations. On the ball, she has a solid first touch and isn't afraid to take players on, or create transitional opportunities," said former Axewomen Captain Kim Wallace who coached Johnston in her youth.

"Meghan is a player with a 'team first' mentality, who always leads by example. Never satisfied with good enough, Meghan always looks for opportunities to improve her game or contributions to her team. Her dedication and passion for soccer has culminated in this incredible opportunity, and she will be a great fit for the Acadia program," added Wallace.

Johnston joins a program that has been recognized with two Top-Eight Academic All-Canadians, three National Community Service awards, finished fifth in Canada at the 2016 U SPORTS championship and were AUS finalists this past season.
